Having worked at the innovation seam of media and communications for many years, Michael has a proven ability to evangelize new media technology. Beginning with early work on the digital transition for U.S. cable, Michael has played a pioneering role in broadband media, interactive television, multiroom DVR, hybrid TV and advanced advertising. He was previously the CEO of uCentric Systems and PhyFlex Networks, and prior to that, the SVP of Marketing for OpenTV. As a strategy consultant he has provided services to more than 50 companies such as Google TV, Cisco Systems, Canoe Ventures, and Pearl.

Zeev is an experienced technology executive with a proven track record of executing new media and web business projects from the ground up. Prior to founding Cognitive Networks, he was the CTO at iNDELIBLE, a cutting-edge New York-based interactive agency. Prior to that, he was the Senior Strategy Manager at CMP Media. He received his MBA from New York University.

Tim has 15 years of financial and operations management experience with venture-backed companies, and has raised over $150 million to support their growth.  Previously he was CFO of Verimatrix, a conditional access and digital rights management software company, where he helped build it from startup to one of the most widely-deployed suppliers in the global pay television market.  Prior to that, he consulted with a number of early-stage companies regarding finance and strategy, and managed direct investments at Mission Ventures, a $500M early-stage venture capital firm focused on internet and communication technologies. Tim also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army’s Aviation branch, where he held roles in strategic planning, managing development and deployment of new technologies, and leading pilots and soldiers in an Apache helicopter battalion. He graduated from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management with an MBA and from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a BS in Computer Science.

Nick Chakalos is a senior executive with over 25 years of high-tech leadership in sales, business development, product management, and operations. Most recently, as President of Catch Media, Nick led sales, business development, and North American operations for this company that pioneered a white-label cloud platform enabling streaming and download entertainment services and a direct-to-consumer digital media store.

Prior to that, he held several executive positions within Motorola focused on interactive TV applications, OTT video, digital media, and VOD solutions for the company’s multi-billion dollar Broadband Home Solutions division.

He joined Motorola through the acquisition of Ucentric Systems where he was vice president of business development. Nick came to Ucentric from IBM, where he managed the worldwide strategic marketing and business development of silicon and embedded software for set-top boxes. At Philips Electronics, he directed product management activities for a line of interactive services and devices; while with Spyglass, he served as product manager of embedded Internet solutions. Nick began his career at Texas Instruments where he held business, product management, strategy, and design engineering roles.

Nick earned undergraduate degrees in Engineering from Dartmouth College and a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Babson College.

John is responsible for the ongoing development of Cognitive Networks’ Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology along with scaling operations to support millions of customers simultaneously.  He has over 20 years of experience building redundant, highly available advanced technologies that can easily scale to handling immense amounts of traffic/data at some of the most trafficked internet sites in the world. He previously served as the Director of Development for Ultimate Gaming and Betfair where he led teams developing advanced cloud products with stringent quality levels enforced by State Gaming Boards. Prior to that, John helped design and architect GeoCities to handle the growth of traffic that led it to become the third-largest website in the world before being acquired by Yahoo!. While at Yahoo!, John managed the expansion of the Y!Mail and Communities team (Groups, Profiles, Photos, Briefcase) and assembled the Yahoo! Connected TV (now Yahoo! Smart TV) engineering team while working with major OEM partners Samsung, LG, Vizio and Sony.

Brian is a serial entrepreneur with experience in developing startups from initial phase into successful systems. Previous roles include Senior Software Engineer at iNDELIBLE, Lead Developer at Sterling Scott and Developer at Mantis Technology.

Greg currently leads business development strategy and partnership efforts for Cognitive Networks’ SmartTV data services business. He is a 20 year veteran of start-up data and technology business ventures working in the field of Active Content Recognition, having formed the initial business strategy and development efforts for both Cyphertech Systems and Verance Corporation. Greg’s background also includes start-up business development efforts for Casino and Gaming Television, a 24 hour Canadian cable television network that was re-branded as Game TV in 2007.

Carter’s background includes a unique fusion of content distribution and emerging technology opportunities culminating in his role in today’s converged media landscape.  Prior to Cognitive Networks, he led the affiliate distribution teams at Turner Broadcasting and The Weather Channel where he was responsible for affiliate relationships, revenue and network launches and growth.  On the technology side, he cut his teeth forging new distribution partnerships for Digeo, an early leader in building advanced home media center solutions.  More recently, Carter has advised clients on business development strategies including recent engagements focused on ACR/second screen, video discovery and mobile app strategy/design.

Rebecca has been engaged at the intersection where media, communications, commerce, and emerging technologies meet for more than 15 years. Beginning with broadband Internet service during early deployments, she went on to work in electronic commerce, website and conversion optimization, interactive television, carrier Ethernet service delivery, and next-generation advanced advertising. Her experience includes tenures as a marketing executive in the communications and entertainment industries; she’s also served as a consultant to a variety of companies in the communications, information, entertainment and technology sectors.

Shelene brings 15 years of management experience in human resources, payroll and operations. Previously, she managed human resource and operations for Eastwick, a Bay Area public relations firm; prior to that, she was payroll and human resource director for Almaden Press. Shelene has worked with many Silicon Valley startup companies building, growing and managing their human resource, operations and payroll departments.

Corey has a wide knowledge of the various accounting aspects within a company, and has successfully managed the day-to-day operations of a variety of accounting departments as well as the administrative functions for several companies. Her former employers include Marine World Africa and Georgia Pacific.

Zeev is an experienced technology executive with a proven track record of executing new media and web business projects from the ground up. Prior to founding Cognitive Networks, he was the CTO at iNDELIBLE, a cutting-edge New York-based interactive agency. Prior to that, he was the Senior Strategy Manager at CMP Media. John "JV" Van Stralen

VP of Engineering

Beginning with broadband Internet service during early deployments, she went on to work in electronic commerce, website and conversion optimization, interactive television, carrier Ethernet service delivery, and next-generation advanced advertising. Her experience includes tenures as a marketing executive in the communications and entertainment industries; she’s also served as a consultant to a variety of companies in the communications, information, entertainment and technology sectors.

Shelene brings 15 years of management experience in human resources, payroll and operations.
